Job Title: Ethical trade and environmental sustainability director
Katharine Stewart is the director of ethical trade and environmental sustainability at Primark, a role she has held since 2009. Katharine began her career as a buyer for several multinational brands, including Clarks Shoes and Gap. She first worked for Primark as a senior buyer in 1995, leading the brand’s hosiery and accessories division for over 10 years. Drawing on what is more than 30 years’ experience within fashion and retail has been critical to Katharine’s development of Primark’s ethical and environmental work. Katharine has responsibility for Primark’s growing ethical trade and environmental sustainability team. The team works closely with factories and suppliers that produce items for Primark, as well as forging connections with local organisations and charities on the ground. Today, the team comprises more than 80 people based in key sourcing countries.
